The Village of Claycomo has adopted Ordinance No 3025 that requires a business to pass a Fire Inspection within the prior 4 months to obtain a Business License. With the adoption of the 2018 International Fire Code (with amendments), there will be requirements that had not been enforced in quite a while, or even at all. The main purpose of fire inspections is education and increase the safety of the Village. We know that starting inspections will be slow and frustrating at times, but we are here to help. With that said, we invite every business to schedule a courtesy inspection now, to have all the potential problems resolved before the February through June time frame. Since this is new to the Village, we will provide Courtesy Inspections without re-inspection fees.
To help the process go smoother, we ask that you fill out the Business License application as completely as possible and that includes the Operational Permits section along with supporting documents. This will allow us to have your information set up in our system ahead of time, and we can do any researching necessary done ahead of time.
We want to provide as much information as possible to you to help you prepare for your fire inspection.
To schedule your Fire Inspection, contact Capt. Dayton Shireman at (816) 452-4612. daytonshireman@claycomo.org

Our main purpose for fire inspections is education and increase the safety of the Village. We know that starting inspections will be slow and frustrating at times, but we are here to help. We will work with owners and tenants as much as we can while ensuring everyone’s safety. Most issues that we find, we will allow for 30 days for them to be fixed. For critical or life safety issues, they will need to be corrected anywhere from immediately to 10 days. In addition to finding and addressing safety issues, inspections allow us to “pre-plan” different locations within the Village. This allows us to become familiar with the layout of a building, location of different hazards and processes so we can provide a better and safer service to you and visitors. On our prevention page you can find the “Inspection Guide” that is list of the most common things we look for. We also have commonly violation/issues also.
To hopefully answer some questions that you might have, we have created some guides to help.
